Hello: My name is Robert James Cave from the U.S.A and in the spring of 2003 I visited your fine town in order to learn more of my family ancestry. I stayed at the Crown and Rose and met several wonderful people and had a great time. My great-great-great grandfather immigrated to Canada from Long-Newnton in the 1830's. I visited the old Norman church in Long-Newnton and a elderly gentleman, Captain Cole ( ), showed me the birth, marriage and death certificate books housed in the church, which dated back to the 1700's and listed several entries for the Caves. The first "tombstone" before the church entrance houses several "Caves". Unfortunately, due to time and erosion, the engravings on the marker are too difficult to read now. I took several photos of the records book, but my camera was stolen at the airport, and I was unable to remember or record the entries from the records books. I wondered, since Tetbury is so close to Long Newnton if anyone still worshipped at the Church or knew the kind elderly gentleman who assisted me, and if so, if they were able to accesss the records books housed in the church. If so, it would be a tremendous help in my family's quest to learn more of our heritage. Eventually, I would like to restore the grave marker that bears our family's ancestors. Thank you and best regards. Robert James Cave (38) 177 Summit Way, SW Roanoke, Virginia, USA rjcave@hotmail.com

Several years ago a relative of mine in England identified the same grave stone as being that of my ancient ancenstors. Thomas' daughter Anne who married a John Knight, had several daughters, one of whom was my great-grandma. Her name was Rosa, and she emgrated to Canada in 1879, and married her cousin Thomas Cave Boulton. They lived in southern Manitoba. I have researched the family extensively and have much data, and a number of pictures, including several of the daughters of Anne Cave (Knight), some who went to India, Australia as well as those who stayed in England.

Hi,
I did some research into the Caves of Long Newton many years ago. John Cave (1752-1813) who appears at the head of the inscription was born in Owlpen, a delightful hamlet near Uley in Gloucestershire. I have traced the line back to Lionel Cave (born c 1660). There are several similar graves of the Cave family at Owlpen with nice brass plaques and also Wills in Glos RO for many of the family

I am currently researching this branch of the Thomas Cave Boulton family. I am his Great-great Grand daughter and have had trouble finding information on Rosa Knight. My little information is that she was raised with her sister Mary (Poston) by a rich childless aunt refered to as Lady Bailey. If you have any more information I would be very interestedin knowing about it.

Hello I am Joan Wall and I am the great grand daughter of Clara Knight who was sister to Rosa Knight (b. 18.5.1849). Clara and Rosa's parents were John Knight and Anne Cave who had 7 daughters and one son in total. After Anne Cave died some of the children stayed with John and Eliza (nee Knight) Bailey at Roward Farm, in Draycot Cerne. Clara went to India in 1871, married and had several children some of whom returned to the UK. I have been researching the Knight and Cave families for the last few months and would be interested to hear from anyone to share information and photos. Regards Joan Wall Wiltshire England (email: ajmanson@btinternet.com)
