Jonny,
I know Tesco treats their staff badly, but I can't afford to shop anywhere else. Tetbury shops were beyond my budget long before Tesco arrived. If that makes me a chav, then I will proudly be a chav.

Shame that what started as an interesting debate on the pros and cons of supermarket and and local shopping had to degenerate into personal matter.
The fact is that every household has a budget that they have to balance at some point. Some of us buy our cheese by royal appointment drive Rangerovers, and go skiing at Christmas. Some of us buy Cathedral City drive a ford and spend Christmas in the Pub. These choices do not define one person as a Chav and another as a Toff. They simply illustrate the choices we have made on how to spend our income (Large or small).
Personally I do most of my shopping in Tescos and Sommerfields, buy some specific items from the local specialists, drive a Jaguar and can't Ski.
Does that make me a Choff. Answers on a Postcard.

Well well, it is interesting to see the true colours of some people!
RTK has hit the nail on the head really - Not to be crass but I have a substantial income from my job in London and I shop in Waitrose, Tesco and Somerfield. I really do not see that "class" and "income" have any bearing on where you shop - I personally like to get good value for money and that is what makes the economic world go round.
The same goes for the price of petrol – why pay more when its cheaper elsewhere? It’s unfortunate that we now have a monopoly situation in Tetbury and the prices are overly high.
I am not an advocate for ugly looking supermarkets anywhere – I was against Tesco coming to Tetbury as they have a reputation for destroying small independent shops by their aggressive tactics of offering nearly everything that the original town shops have at a lower price. When the small shops are failing or out business Tesco’s takes away these services and strips down their stores to the minimum, does anyone remember the wet fish counter!?
It is unfortunate that I now have to shop at the Tetbury Tesco's in order to get some small things (as I do not believe in driving miles to get a jar of Pesto!).
I hope we can continue this thread without anymore snobbery and name calling as it really is not needed or welcome.

Open your eyes and see what is on your own doorstep! I am aware that both shops sell it but I am not fond of paying over the odds for a so call exclusive brand of pesto. To quote a friend of mine in the food industry - "its amazing what a label on a jar will do to sell a product!".

Sorry Mike, I was just pulling your leg!
I see what you mean about this forum - its always the same when you offer a platform to voice opinions, there will always be someone who abuses it.

I wonder who's getting a widescreen TV for Christmas (Andy?) Is there a relationship between where a person lives in Tetbury, where they shop and what type of programme they watch? (reality TV and other programmes that people can watch with their mouths open). There is a good geography project here for some 'A' level student. I have my conclusions already (see my earlier facts!).......

Interesting reading your comments about Tesco here. Apparently, (though perhaps someone from Tesco could shed some light on the matter?) Tesco has bought out the entire Northfield garage site, and the fuel garage is to be converted to a Tesco fuel station, and once Northfield Audi move out, the Tesco store is expanding onto the land behind.
This is through the grapevine, but I'd be interested if anyone knew more...

I think that's a long-time rumour that's been around since Tesco was built. I think Tesco would face a battle to get planning permission for a bigger store, but they might still be interested in the garage.

I've heard the rumour that Tesco have bought Northfield garage too. But the question of the week is "what nefarious activity is going on behind the boards in the carpark?" Has it just ben erected to stop the kids playing football on Sundays? Or maybe it's the new site for the nerve centre where they plan their cunning instore shelf moves. Sushi rice anyone? Oh no, that's no good as they don't sell fresh fish..
