Is anyone else in Tetbury fed up with the price of petrol at our only petrol garage ? Just for anyone's info...the Diesel in Cheltenham at the shell garage is 7p...yes 7p cheaper a litre, and the un-leaded is 6p cheaper. I dont know who owns the garage..I dont really care...but if no one uses this rip off garage, they would have to reduce the prices. Come on Drivers of Tetbury...make a stand against greed !!

I agree, they are charging well over the odds. I always try and go somewhere else, but if you are on 'red' you have little choice. The site that the garage is on is a discrace. It looks so run down and scruffy. It spoils the view for people coming to Tetbury from Cirencester. Knock it down and build a Waitrose (with a cheap petrol station! ~ like the Waitrose in Cheltenham!) That whole road into town from that direction is a mess. The feel of the street right down past Tescos (yuk!) is dodgy! Hopefully they will build something nice on the old Murco garage site by the Ferns. Does this site include the Childrens Creche at the back of the old garage? (that building really is awful!) Tetbury needs to tidy itself up!!!!

London Road's been even worse since Tesco cut down the trees at the side of its site - the trees it promised to leave when it built the store, I should add!!!
Why they haven't replaced them with something more substantial, I don't know. Oh, yes I do... it's because they want everyone to be able to see more of their building.
I agree about Northfields Garage. It is a mess, and has been since the Volkswagen dealership left. They really need to build some houses on that land or something.
I wonder if it's part of Tesco's infamous 'landbank'?

Yes, Northfields Garage used to be quite reasonably priced for petrol, but now it's not at all. I know the Cotswolds are generally very expensive (travel North or South and you'll see prices fall very quickly) but Tetbury does seem to be a bit OTT.

Interesting point regarding Tescos and the trees upon witnessing the felling I questioned a member of the Tescos staff, apparently that small plot of land is owned by the Council (Tetbury or Cotswold ?) they took the decision to remove the trees. Of course Tesco Tetbury staff could have been told to say this to concerned members of the public. Yes London Road is a mess Northfield Garage has never been the same since the VW dealership moved to Cirencester the majority of the old building, the former workshops, have been condemned by Health & Safety apparently it contains high levels of asbestos. I would imagine if the Audi dealership relocated to Cirencester then Tesco's would happily purchase the site possibly for redevelopment into one of their filling stations. Lets face it Tetbury needs at least one fuel outlet !

How much is the petrol at Northfield then? I'm paying 101.5 per litre in Wotton. I worked at Hampton Garage back in the early 80s, and remember petrol being around 170 per gallon. Now it's 450 per gallon, 2.5 times higher, but other prices, and average earnings, have risen by more then this over the same period. Petrol is cheaper now than it was a generation ago! Anyway, I agree, I really don't like Northfield and avoid it if at all possible. Cirencester fuel prices selected today at random from 3 of the 5 Garages ; Bridges (Texaco) Unleaded 101.9 Diesel 106.9 Abbey Rd (Texaco) Unleaded 101.9 Diesel 106.9 Tesco's. Unleaded 101.9 Diesel 106.9 How anyone can suggest the price of fuel is in line with average earnings is beyond me......would the same logic apply to Tetbury property prices ;D I think not. 1970's add for a place in Northfield Rd, oh those were the days Recent realisations with the same post code. It's an interesting point though. When I started driving, a mere 15 years ago, I was paying about 42p a litre. If we take into account inflation then petrol should be priced in the high 90's p/litre. So, as it is, the price is not much higher than inflation.
However, the price of property has far outstripped inflation and yet we perpetuate this problem by insisting on making "profit" each time we come to sell a house, little realising that this just pushes the price of one's next property higher as well.
All that said though, the prices in Tetbury are higher than surrounding areas. Tesco's in Stroud (and I suppose Ciren) still do petrol for less than £1/l. Economies of scale I guess... But, to whoever suggested it, would a couple of pence a litre REALLY be worth allowing another Supermarket into Tetbury or, God forbid, the expansion of Tesco's??? Sounds like the death knell for the butchers, the bakers (and the candlestick makers come to that) if ever I heard one....

Does a few pence matter ?? obviously not to those who can afford it !
But for those of us that travel, every week, it can make a big difference. I drove past Tetbury garage the other day...it was 108.9 a ltr for diesel. 8p.....yes folks 8p more a litre than at the Shell garage in Cheltenham.
Im not using Tetbury for fuel anymore...even if I have to use Nailsworth which is 103.9...it's still cheaper than Tetbury.
Why not expand Tesco's ? give us a garage with lower fuel costs. It always amazes me how people have a go at Tesco's.....what else is there in Tetbury? Tesco's employee a large number of people from our community. PERHAPS the people who have had a go at Tesco's on the "RIP OFF FUEL IN TETBURY" Blog, should actually start their own blog????

Andy ~ If you need to ask 'what else is there in Tetbury except from Tesco's', then you really need to move away from the town. To Swindon or somewhere like that maybe. Tesco will kill Tetbury in the long run and they DO NOT treat their employees well.
Also, the 'Tesco's subject came up in the 'Fuel Prices in Tetbury' thread because someone suggested that Tesco's should expand and open a FUEL STATION. Sounds like a related subject to me.......
I bet that you are the type to have a wide/flat screen TV the size of you living room and drive a Ford car (parked of course on your sterile front drive of your estate style house. Move away please.

Jonny,
So I take it you dont actually use Tesco's in Tetbury then...no dont tell me you use Waitrose in Cirencester.
Fact...Tesco's offers employment to the people of Tetbury. The point is Jonny, if Northfield garage, had a Tesco's garage to compete with, then the price of fuel would come down...benefitting not only me, but all who live in Tetbury.
Are you actually requiring me to comment about the flat screen TV and driving a ford car? Or should I just ignore it for the idiot that you are.

Hello Andy ~ think that I touched a nerve there ;D.
You are right. Tesco's is for common chavs. I do indeed shop at Waitrose in Ciren or Bath. I also tend to spend my money in the local shops in town like the new deli's and gorgeous cheese shop; so I am more than doing my bit! Waitrose really is lovely. No riff-raff in there.
Please continue to shop in Tesco's. It is created just for sad gits like you (with your wide screen TV and dare I suggest, low level of taste and class.....)

Jonny,
Im sorry to see that you have to resort to insults.
I was going to invite you round to my council estate house, to watch the England match with some riff raff friends of mine. I would have picked you up in my Ford Mondeo, and we could have listened to some Kylie on my cd player whilst driving round Tetbury High Street. We could then have popped in Tesco's to get some lager. If ofcourse you had decided to walk, my house is easy to spot, as I have various England flags all around my house, flying proudly.
But I have no doubt that it would have been below you, to even entertain such an idea. Perhaps you should stick to looking up your family tree...you never know Jonny, one day you may actually find out who your Dad is.

You were the one who started making the rude comments.
