I was just wondering if anyone else was like I appaled at the lack of control or interest, the organisers of the festival this year, showed towards the parking and traffic problems caused immediatly prior to any concert.
I live in the immediate vicinity to St Mary's and wittnessed an number of close calls, one of which involved a car mounting the pavement, to avoid an oncoming vehicle, and narrowly missing a pedestrian.
I am all for any event that raises our town profile and brings money into the local economy, but anyone organising such an event must take into account the effect it has on the local population, and make every effort not to inconvenience or put the public at risk.
The problems this year could have been easily avoided if a few of the organisers spent some time out on the street in a yellow jacket controlling the traffic they had created.
This lack of interest in what effect the event is having on the local vicinity makes me wonder about the motivation behind it. Are they trying to do something for the town, or make a fast buck.

I attended the festival this year and although an fantastic event, I would agree that it was let down by the traffic and parking problems that could so easily be avoided.
People should realize that I think the attendance this year was greater than last, and this probably caught the organizers unaware. That said they should really have spotted what was going on by Sunday and tried to control it. If a serious accident had been caused the local authorities may not have been prepared to issue an event license next year.
I admit I was one those that parked in front of the Church, and whilst my husband and I were getting out of the car a driver racing to get the space in front of me forced an oncoming car onto the pavement nearly hitting a set scaffolding. I would imagine the reaction of the insurance company to that would have been interesting.
