I've been trying to research my great grandmother Florence Clamp (stage name Daisy Neville) and her first husband John Clamp aka Professor Clancy. They lived in Tetbury for a few years before John died in 1918 and they owned the Empire Picture Palace for a few years, probably from around 1915-1918. John was a professional violinist and Florence was an actress. I think they may have lived in the White Hart Inn for some time, but I can't find any lists of inhabitants of the Hotel for that time period to confirm it. If anyone has any info on John Clamp/Clancy and Florence Clancy/Daisy Neville I would be extremely grateful. I live on Vancover Island in Canada so researching from this distance has proven difficult to say the least. My email is danielle_andrea@hotmail.com if anyone has info they would like to share. Cheers, Danielle

Back then I don't think Tetbury even had a Cinema, the first one on record was set up in the White Hart Hotel by Mr Shaw Phillips in 1921.

Professor CLANCY enquirer, Using a Library outlet, do not have any details with me. Not currently living in Tetbury have no idea who to ask. From time to time I get a copy of Tetbury Advertiser, always enjoy the input form H.O.T.S. ( History of Tetbury Society ) perhaps some one involved with them could have a little information. Worth a try. Cliff B.

Tetbury's first cinema was indeed in the White Hart Hotel, now the Snooty Fox, probably held in the first floor ballroom. It was started by Shaw Phillips in the year 1921 with silent films being shown accompanied by a Miss P. Perrett on the piano with her father on the violin.
The old stables behind the hotel were converted into the cinema which burned down and was replaced by the New Palace Cinema which closed some time in the 1960's.
Not sure that this helps you other than to point out that whereever the Empire Picture Palace was it wasn't Tetbuty.
