Hi, My G/Grandfather was William Russell, born in Tetbury about 1881. ... Info found on his marriage Cert 1902 aged 22, his father is said to be John Russell a Labourer. I have searched the BMD records for him under the name William Russell with no luck, I have been told by a fellow researcher that he was born William John Russ, son of Harriett Russ out of wedlock, but she did go on to marry his father John Russell in 1883, and I asummed his name was changed or adopted to Russell. My concern is that on 1891 Census, their son is named as John, but the same age, so is it possible he is the same child, but prefered William to John as his chosen name, but never gave his middle name as John on marriage Cert?. I'm getting very confused now and would appreciate any help. Thank you in advance
