Happy New Year Webmaster. Many thanks for the information. Filter is certainly overactive. I seem to re-call some time ago that I had similar difficulty with a form of savory meat concoction. Have you noticed that forum named " Seriously Underused " seems to have received hits far in excess of other listings. I only wish there were other users apart from myself. Come on people! Cliff B.

Yes, I'm wondering if a rename for the thread would be a good idea. Just don't want people to be unable to find it!

Hi Monica and Normanspants, Welcome back to the Forum. I am in contact with Monica through E-mails, I owe you one Monica, but current financial crunch has meant time on line at Library outlet has been severely cut down. Having problems keeping in touch with all of my other correspondents in USA, Peru, Czech Republic, Poland and Borneo. May be forced to purchase my own computer and pay to get on line. I am sure that if I do I will be burning a lot of mid- night oil. Yes Normanpants, ( have you got a shorter form of address ?) I did mention having been a bell ringer in my youth, and especially taking part in a special ring to celebrate the birth of Prince Charles. I can re-call adding my signature with the other ringers on the frame work of the chiming mechanism in the tower. Despite having a fairly good memory I am unable to remember the name of the Tower Captain. At the time he was the Manager of the now defunct International Stores. Two I do remember were Percy WILKINS a Barber, Mr SATTELEY a Jewelle and Alan PROSSER a school classmate. Be interested to know the full list of the ringers if it is still legible. Do any other readers have knowledge of family relatives who rang after WW2 into the 1950's . Any suggestions as to a new Forum identity ? Cliff B.

Calling all readers. Have been dipping into the publication Tetbury & People etc. Suprisingly many memory flash backs. Trolley ! if you are reading this, I too remember the Americans, the plane crash at the Water works, the aluminium float down following the bomber raid on Dresden. Mrs BARRON, Mrs THOMAS, teachers at the National. Not taught by Josh BARRON as he had had been called into the RAF. Cubs run by Miss MORRISON-BELL and GOUGH the Gardener. Scoutmaster Skip JONES from Oxlease Close. What about thingyer RICH racing an Army motor cycle Dispatch rider on a horse, and winning!. If any one from Tetbury Historical Society wishes to get in touch for memories of a West Street Tetburian in the mid 1930's to 1950's do not hesitate. For anyone researching the COOK family, my grandfather, Jesse Isaac COOK was born in Chipping Sodbury. I have a continuous parish link for his Family dating back to 1636 in and around Hawksbury. None of them moving more than a few miles from the area. For anyone interested can dig the records out and find names of families marrying in. May possibly help someone find a missing link. Look forward to a response. Noirmanspants ! you did suggest going off at a tangent. Here it is. Cliff.B.

Greetings to all my Readers, Hard to beleive that in the short time " seriously underused forum " has been on line that there have been over nine thousand hits. Looking forward to reaching ten thousand in the near future. Pity there are only hits and no postings. Is nothing ever happening in Tetbury ? No one remember me ? No war time stories told you by Grand-parents, Parents ? Where in the World did fellow Grammar School pupils ( Prior to Sir W.Romney ) finish up ?. Be nice to hear how life has treated you. Read in a National Daily a reference to a Tetbury resident kicking up a stink. It used to be that "No news " is good news I guess it takes all sorts Looking forward to hearing from anyone. Cliff. B.

Still no messages for Cliff B. Had a little response some time ago when I put up a list of Nick names of Tetburians of my age from long ago. Trying again. Here are some names of classmates in the middle to late 1940's. Are they still alive ? Where are they ? Do you know them or are they a relative ?
Peter ELLIOT, lived in Hampton Street. Pierre TOPPS, lived above MacFisheries. Arthur SILK, lived at Tetbury Upton. David THOMAS , lived at Rodmarton, ( Mother was a teacher ) Alan PROSSER , lived in Coronation Road. Sammy EVANS, lived at Westonbirt. John FRYER, lived on Long Newton Road, opposite the American Army camp.
Where are you ?.

Hello Cliff B, My Grandparents lived in Tetbury (Before your time), my Father and his two Brothers went to the Grammar School which was there at the time. My Aunt was born in the White Hart Hotel in 1926. My Father was born in London in 1912 and moved to Tebbury not too long after that. My Grandfather owned the White Hart Hotel at the time and moved into it with his family. I think the Family left Tetbury in the early to mid 1930's. My Family name is Rennie. I have since found out that my Great Grandfather had the Bear Hotel in Hungerford (I originally thought it belonged to my Grandfather); this means my Family ties to Tetbury go back a lot longer than I originally thought. I visit England last November 2008, but was unable to get back to Tetbury at the time. I made up a web Blog site about Tetbury (a work in progress when I have some time). You can go to it if you click on my Home Page. The Blog has two original photos of the White Hart which I uploaded, my Grandfather is standing outside in the oldest photo (from the 1920's), the other photo is from a later period. I hope you find some people from your time period that you know. All the best for now, Philip (from Down Under) This is a copy of a post that I posted on this board back on 07/01/2009: "I’m from Australia; however I visited Tetbury a long time ago in 1977. My Grandfather owned the “White Hart Hotel” for a time during the 1920’s. My Father and his 2 brothers went to school in Tetbury, and my Aunt was actually born in the White Hart Hotel in 1926. I stayed 3 nights at The White Hart in 1977, and drove all around Tetbury and the surrounding country side. Loved Tetbury, especially due to my Family ties to the area. My Great Grandfather had the Bear Hotel in Hungerford. In the 1920’s the White Hart Hotel had a Cinema, my Grandmother used to play the piano in sync to the silent movies."

Hi Phillip R. At last a positive response to my "witterings" . Great to hear from you. There is every chance that your relatives would have known my Grandparents, Jesse COOK, and Henrietta nee. HUNT. As for the cinema, a connection, my Grandfather was in my early days the Commisionaire. Certainly between the early 30's and 40's. I can still seem now, resplendent in a blue frock coat, Boer war and WW1 medals, peaked hat and white gloves. I too have memories of the White Hart. A bar known as the "Canteen" and only used by Service personnel and friends, now a Dining Room. Beaufort Hunt Balls in the sprung floor Ballroom. Victory celebrations in the same room with attendees invited to trample on a German swastika flag brought home by a Tetbury soldier. Is the reason for the White Hart having blue underparts within your Family oral or written history.?? Have not come across your first posting at all. Unable to pick up your blog as you have not given any details. Would love to reminisce further. If you prefer by personal messages, my E- address is :- cliffno12@hotmail.com There are Tetburians of my era down under, perhaps they may come out from where they hide and drop an occasional message. I only wish some of those I have been trying to contact over the last couple of years would. Greetings and best wishes to all readers, now rapidly reaching the 10,000 hits. Cliff B.

Hi Cliff B, I am a bit puhsed for time right now, however just quickly: Blog address, just click on the link my-tetbury-blog.blogspot.com/I will contact you and post some more soon. What was the "Commisionaire" ? My Father (the yougest boy) died 6 years ago aged 91 therefore I can't get much 1st hand family information about Tetbury anymore. However I do have my aunt who was born in the The White Hart Hotel 1926 (now 83 years old) and living in Sussex. I will have to ask her some more about Tetbury, although she has told me that she does'nt remember much at all, as she was just a baby and was about 6 - 9 years old when the famliy left. I posted some very old photos of my Grand Parents at the White Hart Hotel on my Blog.

Hi Phillip, Cliff BRYAN calling. Many thanks for your response, unable to believe you are one of so few responders. Just think, now over 10,000 hits, must be some interest in Tetbury. I wonder how much family and social history is held by some of those ! Great to see the early pictures of the early Cinema. A bit different to my time, mid 30's to early 50's when it was the New Palace. You ask about " Commissionaire. A sort of " Under Manager", a uniformed Seccurity, overseeing the queue before opening the porch grille, and backing up the usherettes controlling the hordes of unruly kids. Tarzan, and Hopalong Cassidy films always brought out the worst in us. I use a Library outlet, and at times use is strictly, today is one such time. Closing down before being cut off. Be pleased to hear from you when you have time. I wonder if any members of Tetbury Historical Society ever check these forums? If so would not be surprised if some contact with you for some details of you family history. Keep in touch, Cliff.B.
